Happiness, the Easy Way..

Happiness, if you know it or not, it is the most important thing in everyone's life, still we make the mistake of not consciously choosing it over other things that does'nt bring happiness. Prof. Raj Raghunathan, who is a Professor of Marketing at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, has been working as a Happiness researcher for a quite a few years and a lot to share about "how to be happy". Here is what he has to say about happiness that he found from his research and research in general.

In his book "If you're so smart, why aren't you happy?" he states that smarter people tend to make seven mistakes along with the not-so-smart people which makes them unhappy in their lives. So what are these 'happiness sins' as Prof. Raj calls it..

When subjects were asked what is their priority in life among wealth, success, money, happiness etc. they opted for happiness. However, when they were asked what would they ask if a genie gave them three wishes, subjects chose wealth, success and money rather than happiness. Which shows people left behind what they are looking for in their life as they walk along the path. Which is the first happiness-sin people make, Devaluating happiness.

He suggests that to be happy in life we have to prioritize things in life as clarity in our goals is the primary step towards happy life. A recommended procedure is to take a sheet of paper and write down our "happy-things", the things which make us happy. Then take action on these things that you wrote it down on the paper and later fallowing up regularly on our actions and making sure we are not diverting from our original goal of "happiness".

1. Prepare a 'happy-things' list
2. Take action on these 'happy-things'
3. Follow up regularly on our progress

As he states that most of us have a tendency to be unclear on our happiness source, so it is vital to write it down on a piece of paper. Writing down on a paper makes the abstract things more clear to us. So, follow these simple and easy ways to "happiness" and achieve instant happiness and all this is for free!!
